This week in Art Class - October Art!
I HOPE TO MEET FAMILIES AT CURRICULUM NIGHT THIS WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 8.
5th Graders
This week you will need your "ALL ABOUT ME" worksheets you filled out in September.
Xavier and Tuskegee artists continue on their profile portraits and are finishing up the areas outside of their portraits. QUIZ your scholar what the 5 KINDS of lines are AND the 5 Line Variations...they know them!
The FIVE KINDS OF LINES ARE:- Vertical
- Horizontal
- Diagonal
- Zig Zag
- Curved
The FIVE LINE VARIATIONS ARE:
- Length
- Width
- Texture
- Directional
- Degree of Curve
You will see A LOT of these lines in the artwork they are currently making as well as in a mini project we are going to start this week about DESIGNING using the lines above.
6th Grade
We are DEEP into our Pop Art project. This week, the scholars in FISK & Hampton have put their primer down on the red clay and are ready to start painting their portraits in the style of Pop Artist, Andy Warhol. If you aren't sure about who Mr. Warhol is, please, ask your scholar...they have been learning about him, his life and the contributions he made as one of the founders of the Pop Art movement. Photos are coming very soon, so stay tuned!
7th Grade Artwork this week
FAMU & Howard are completing their first attempt at paper sculpture building. They had to create a structure that would stand independently using various ways to change the paper. The ONLY supplies they had at their disposal were: paper, scissors, glue and their knowledge of the attributes of paper.
Art Criticism is a major part of the curriculum and scholars are going to be writing about artwork on a regular basis. You will see some of their thoughts about "The Gulf Stream" by Winslow Homer on the bulletin board outside of Rm. 322 during CURRICULUM NIGHT on WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 8th.
8th Grade Morehouse & Spelman
Wednesday is the "Understanding Comics" RE-TEST. Scholars may not take the test unless permission slips are signed. Weaving continues as well. Design decisions are being made and concentration is a must when weaving. Ask your scholar about HOW they made their looms!
