The Show Off

Signage by Gregory, Grade 6 and A LOT of help from classmates in grades 5-7!

The Black History Show

A sampling of the portraits
To say the show was a success would be a disservice to the participants, because the show was beyond amazing.  That being said, the artwork on the walls complimented the theme of social action and awareness and I am very proud of my students who rose to the challenge of creating art specifically for this wonderful show.

Artists in 5th, 6th and 8th Grade worked very hard on portraits of:
Marcus Garvey & Sojourner Truth
(Thurman, Grade 5)
Shirley Chisholm & Neil Degrasse Tyson (Alliyah, Grade 8)
Maya Angelou (Sy'rae, Grade 6)
Josephine Baker (Autumn, Grade 6)

Xavier & Tuskegee - 5th Grade Artists

Autobiographical Comic Project!  Tuskegee received packets on Thursday to help them brainstorm about what they will use as their baseline story for their comic strip.  Xavier students are to have 4 ideas for class on Monday.  Students need to know what "Autobiographical" means and start thinking about a story they would like to share with drawings and text.  Study the comic vocabulary we worked on together in art class.

6th Grade Artists in FISK & Hampton

Background painting for License Plate project is completed and after foreground work is done, students will get into groups of 3 to design a theoretical trip to 3 states across the USA.  Each person in the group will be the local expert on one of the states and teamwork is vital for this final part to this long-term project.
Keep studying the US states, by the way!

7th Grade is Socially Aware

Social Action posters were included in the Black History Show and truly added to the excitement of the evening.  Thank you to those who COMPLETED the work on time.  It shows you made best use of class time AND/OR made time to work on your project outside of class.
The next project requires your EARS and brain.  Look up a song that is related to your social action poster issue.  Details were given in class.  You are sending me ONLY SCHOOL APPROPRIATE (CLEAN) versions of your song.  There should not be any cursing or inappropriate slang terms.  If you have any questions, you need to ask me about it.
Email Ms. Hillman (jhillman@cpcsschool.org) with the following:
1)  The song title and artist of a song related to your social issue
2) A couple sentences about how you came across the song (if someone suggested it to you or if you already knew the song.  Where did you first hear it?
3) If you are going to be working alone or in a group (maximum of three group members)
4) Include the VERSE of the song you are interested in using for this project.
5) EXTRA INFO: send a link of the song video for 2 dojo points.
