Adios, October! November is the Art Jam!

8th Graders are GOING PLACES

This week the 8th Graders are going to be exploring the High Line and surrounding Art Galleries.  This is in an effort to give them the experience of viewing public art in the beautiful Chelsea area of Manhattan AND in professional gallery settings.

The Weaving Project was a wild success as scholars eventually got the hang of how to make the looms and create their own pieces of woven artwork.  And you ain't seen NOTHING yet...the Pre-Holiday project will build on their knowledge of weaving and scholars will be creating another piece with non-traditional materials. We start this week!
8th Graders really DID get Weavey with it.
BOOK CHARACTER DAY IS A GREAT WAY TO SHOW OFF YOUR CREATIVITY AND ARTISTIC SKILLS.  JOIN OUR PARTY ON FRIDAY!

7th Grade Update on Howard & FAMU

Next project will continue with exploration of paper as a material, this time: COLLAGE.  Students are exploring a challenge they have had to overcome and began working on their collages last week.

6th Grade POP ARTISTS

We are nearing the end of the Pop Art Self-Portrait project...kinda, sorta.  It's time to mount the artwork so it is ready for gallery showing...ask your scholar about the sequences of this project.  Recalling the process is important for their growth as scholars and artists.
Alexis' artwork is TRULY something Andy Warhol would enjoy!

Grade 5 Artists

Being thorough in art class is vital.  Scholars in Xavier and Tuskegee are finishing up their Self-Portrait Profiles and are ready to show off their skills in the VERY, VERY, VERY near future.  The five line variations are going to be our next victims as we master the design skills needed to be able to present ANYTHING in a fancy sort of way.  If you don't know what I mean, you will soon!
